Happy New Year to you all, like most of you I have found the beginning of this year to be extremely busy. Actually it is not that much different to me from last year, or the year before, but my mind keeps telling me it is. As I sit here at the computer to write this message, the sun is out, I am looking out into the patio area which is showing some signs of the rain we experienced this past weekend, however the squirrels are bounding about with renewed energy and actually quite fun to watch. In addition for several weeks a pair of Doves have been in the patio area. I thought they were about to start a nest. Isn’t this the wrong time of year to start a nest? What do I know. They have not moved into the basket where we have had dove nests before, but they do check it out every day, so I assume at some point soon we will have another nest. A fat cat was seen lying in the sun on one of our outdoor chairs recently, and he (I assume it was a he) acted like he owned the patio. Those of you who have followed my reports of animal activity on the patio will find this information familiar, as the only new part is the cat! Yes the squirrels do still dig in the plants; however instead of just tolerating them I am enjoying them. This leads me to say I am enjoying life. I am feeling the beginning of a new cycle, one filled with energy, Light and Love. May each of you, feel the energy of renewal, and may this coming year for each of you be filled with Joy and Laughter along with Light and Love.

I would like to share with each of you a Cherokee Prayer Blessing that was sent to me by one of our ministers:

May the warm winds of heaven blow softly upon your house.

May the Great Spirit bless all who enter there.

May your moccasins make happy tracks in the snow,

And may the rainbow always touch your shoulder.

Words, Mangos & Being

     The spiritual and non-dual teachers, guides, etc. that are the “real deal,” will tell you that words can point to the truth, but will not themselves dissolve the fundamental illusion — the misidentification of yourself as a separate entity. Only directly experiencing/knowing your true nature as Awareness awakens you from the dream of being a separate, inside self imprisoned within and as a body/mind. To allow that transmutation to occur requires a willingness to question one’s fundamental beliefs and assumptions, to not know, and be open to the Being-ness that an authentic teacher radiates. In that openness, that which is beyond what the mind can comprehend dissolves the veil covering one’s true nature.

     The “problem” with words is that they are conceptual and the Truth is not. Imagine that you never tasted a mango, and someone described it to you. They even told you that it was somewhat like a ripe peach or an apricot perhaps, but sweeter, etc. That might give you a closer idea about the experience of mangos, but no description will have you KNOW IT DIRECTLY and without doubt.

     Then one day you taste a mango. You are flooded with multi-sensory experiences in awareness unlike any you have had before. No description you had heard before about mangos was it, or prepared you for knowing it directly. No concept was sufficient. And the moment you taste the mango, all doubt is gone, all concepts dissolve, and you directly, intimately KNOW MANGO in the awareness that you are. And you will never NOT KNOW it again. Then in the future, when someone mentions mangos, or you read about them, all the words suddenly have a new and powerful resonance with what one has directly known for oneself. The words now invite you to bring forth the awareness of mango that is now always within you, and a sudden cascade of taste, smells, salivation, etc. occurs spontaneously without a physical mango needing to be present, because mango is now a conscious part of your awareness.

     That direct knowing is what happens the moment the veil of separateness, of being a separate body/mind entity drops away, even for a brief moment, for a brief taste, for a brief view of the Truth, and one is standing in the limitless, sublime, light and glory of one’s true nature in which there is nothing that is not “I”. Once you tasted a mango, even if you never tasted a mango again, you would now live informed by that experience of KNOWING it, which transcends time. In the same way, when you experience directly your true nature, that KNOWING allows you to live your life informed by it, welcoming its timeless presence as the background for your life, and allowing that knowing to more and more shape an unchangingly beyond all time and space.

This terrific article addresses the thoughts and wishes of individuals in hospice care. Those things they wish they had done are filled with grace and enlightenment for the living.

Many of the students in the Degree Program and others who studied with me at Solar Cross, “A New Beginning” know that this is my Bible of preference.  I am not familiar with this organization but am familiar with Dr. Lamsa’s work and Dr. Errico studied with him and is continuing his work.  For those students or others interested in additional bible study this is a program I would recommend. The organization is a non-profit and the webcast are free.

I have been a student of the Lamsa Bible for more than 11 years and attend Dr. Errico’s Bible study retreats in Atlanta every summer. He studied with Lamsa for 10 years before Lamsa died in 1975 and has republished many of Lamsa’s Bible commentaries. This is the first time Dr. Errico has begun holding monthly webcasts to explain the Bible verse by verse. For those interested in understanding the Bible from a Near Eastern, cultural, Aramaic perspective, free of theological doctrines, these webcasts are a must see!
