AFFIRMATION

I am opening up to my best and highest spiritual capacity.

Trick or Treat!

I find myself every year writing about the pre-Christian beginnings of Halloween, All Hallow’s Eve and the remarkable journey it has taken to All Saints Day. This year I want to talk about the fun aspect of Halloween. Because, I remember being a kid on October 31st.

If we were lucky enough to be in school on Halloween, we got to dress up in costume, or change during lunch. What a thrill – to be dressed as a ghost, a ballerina, cowboy or clown – sitting at your school desk and walking around in the costume parade. I always knew that no one would recognize me. Unfortunately – being the largest girl and the one with the loudest voice – everyone knew who I was. But, every year – I dreamed of being anonymous.

Walking home from school was exciting. Cars would honk, folks would wave and the parochial school kids would look on with envy. After a very hurried dinner – just around sunset – we tidied up our costume, put on masks and dashed out the door to go Trick or Treat in our large neighborhood. I never learned what kind of tricks we could do – I just went full bore – getting those treats!

Since I had much younger brothers and a sister – I was able to trick or treat well into my teenage years – under the auspices of “helping the kids.”

Even at 15 and 16 – I still got a thrill when we dressed up in our very favorite fantasy character and knocked on that first door – with our pillowcases held out in front of us. The rule was – never knock on a door unless they had the porch light on. But usually every doorway was ablaze with either lights, candles or battery run howling critters. Friendly folks came to their door with a cheerful attitude or a scary outfit, but always with complimentary comments about our costumes.

When we finally got very chilled, reached a point of saturation, or a whistle from my dad brought us back – we would walk home, dragging our bags of goodies behind us. The house was always warm and inviting as we gleefully ran through the door – screaming, “I got the most candy!” Then the fun really started as we poured our treasure out in big piles and proceeded to count it. I usually got the most since I was the biggest – but sometimes my brother Bart, because he was the cutest – would get the most.

A lot of time was spent putting the goodies in order – stacking the chocolates in one pile, the gum in another, apples, raisins and other yucky healthy stuff went into the fruit bowl and if cookies were broken – they went to my Dad. I can remember one year I had enough candy and confectionary items to last until after Christmas. That was the year of The Big Haul.

For a couple of years when they found razor blades in apples, and it was rumored that there was poison in the candy – there was fear in the air that took away the joy and delight of Trick or Treating. However, when it turned out to be only a few cases – and they were perpetrated by the child’s family – the scary ghosties and ghoulies were back at front doors in abundance.

Last year we had over 150 kids at our door. There were tiny big-eyed devils with red suits and pointy tails, gangly gypsies with ballerina slippers, colorful clowns, television characters and Friday the 13th gory teenagers, ghosts of all ages and some young adults with T-shirts reading, “This is my Halloween Costume.” They were all wearing that goofy “trick or treat” smile as they stretched their bags toward the doorway. In the background the grown-ups stood silently watching their youngsters and shouting “Say Thank You” to their clattering young.

Neighbors, strangers, and friends came to the door in this age old custom. And when I turned out the porch light at 9:30 – I could still hear the shrieks, monster growls and excited laugher as another Trick or Treat night slowly ended.

Be a part of Halloween – doing a ritual, going to the cemetery and honoring the dead, wearing a costume, going to a party, trick or treating, or giving out candy. Do it for the Joy it brings as we start the autumn time of year.

Interactive Website for Legal Information

October 28, 2009

Many of our ministers, charters and individual students have questions regarding legal matters both professional and personnel.  UCM is working to find information for you regarding federal and state laws that pertain to individual ministers and charter holders.  Fortunately ministers update us as they find changes in their states and we pass these along.  We will also be sharing information sent to Headquarters via the IRS, and UCM’s  lawyer.

I have been doing some personnel research for myself and my family and found a wonderful website that not only allows you to research state specifically, but has a message board where you can ask a specific question.  They do not charge for basic information or questions in the forum.  This seemed to be something that might be useful for our ministers.  Their website is www.findlaw.com and www.legalzoom.com.  If any of our ministers have other websites like this that you use, please send them to rev.angeladebry@u-c-m.org and we will add them to the legal portion of the blog.

Thank you,

Reverend DeBry, H.H.D, D.D.

AFFIRMATION

I am a minister, led by spirit to help people heal

and find their spiritual path.

There’s no more potent way to thank God for your gifts or to increase them, than by sharing them. You will be given as much power in the world as you are willing to use on God’s behalf.

Think of your career as your ministry. Make your work an expression of love in service to mankind. Within the worldly illusion, we all have different jobs. Some of us are artists, some of us are business people, some of us are scientists, etc. But in the real world that lies beyond all this, we all have the same job: to minister to human hearts. All of us are here as ministers of God

One of the things I’ve realized is that, actually, there has been only one career. I’ve had many jobs, but they all had one basic element in common: me. The form of the work had mainly to do with where I was at that time in my life, and every form taught me something essential to my “career development.”

As an owner of a metaphysical bookstore, foster mother to distressed teenagers, a buyer for Lockheed Missiles and Space, owner of a bar in Las Vegas or a spiritual counselor, I was helping people find their spiritual path.

As ministers of God, we let our careers be an expression of our own depth, that is, what really matters to us. Knowing that we are acting on behalf of a higher purpose than our own self-aggrandizement gives us the joy we’re all seeking. Whatever we do, whatever our job, it can be a vessel through which we teach God’s message – “Love One Another.”

We don’t necessarily teach this verbally, but rather non-verbally. We teach by example. The problem most people have is that they’re more concerned with the mode of their expression than with what they’re seeking to express.

“God, please use me” is the most powerful affirmation we can say for an abundant career. It is the miracle worker’s prayer. Everybody wants a great job. Accept that it’s already been given you. The fact that you’re alive means a function has been assigned to you: open your heart to everyone and everything. That way you’re a vessel of God. Don’t worry about what to say or what to do. God will let you know.

Our job is to tend to our own growth as people, our grace, integrity and humility. We need no other goal. The core of our being then grows into a substantial power, externally as well as internally. Our ministry becomes a direct line of creation, from God through us to all.

And that one Voice appoints your function and relays it to you, giving you the strength to understand it, do what it entails, and to succeed in everything you do that is related to it.

A Return to Love by Marianne Williamson

“Within this gathering of friends, we learn to listen to the voice within, the voice that asks…What’s next?…Where is the meaning?…What is my purpose? We are seekers…learning to discover and share our visions, our purpose, and ourselves.”

Danetta from the UCM Catalog of Ministerial Courses

Kids talk about God

You should always go to church on Sunday because it makes God happy, and if there’s anybody you want to make happy, it’s God. Don’t skip church to do something you think will be more fun like going to the beach. This is wrong. And besides, the sun doesn’t come out at the beach until noon anyway.

If you don’t believe in God, besides being an atheist, you will be very lonely, because your parents can’t go everywhere with you, like to camp, but God can. It is good to know He’s around you when you’re scared in the dark or when you can’t swim very good and you get thrown into real deep water by big kids. But, you shouldn’t just always think of what God can do for you. I figure God put me here and He can take me back anytime He pleases. And that’s why I believe in God.”

Fun One-Liners

Many folks want to serve God, but only as advisors.

It is easier to preach ten sermons than it is to live one.

If the church wants a better pastor, it only needs to pray for the one it has.

God loves everyone but probably prefers “fruits of the spirit”

over “religious nuts!”

We don’t change the message, the message changes us.

AFFIRMATION

I know that God/Goddess is within me, right here, right now,

and leads me on a perfect path!

What do you believe about God and yourself?

The very first and most important thing is to decide what you believe about God, about yourself, and about your relationship to God or with God. These must be your very own inner secret beliefs. Not necessarily what someone else has told you. Examine your beliefs, were they held over from childhood? Bring up your ideas and examine them with your own sense. Are you comfortable with the word God, Goddess, Father or Mother, would you rather call it “Infinite Intelligence,” the “Divine” or simply “That Which Is?” Do you believe you are a part of God or that you are God individualized?

After much thought and pondering, you may feel you don’t know! That is perfectly okay. The essence of God is not about thought – it is what you feel in your heart. For myself, I know that I am made in the spiritual image and likeness of God and am God individualized.

When the late Dr. Charles Steinmetz, Research Scientist for General Electric Laboratories, was asked in what department of Science the greatest discoveries would be made in the next fifty years, he replied, “I think the greatest discovery will be made along spiritual lines. Here is a force which history clearly states has been the greatest power in the development of man and history. Yet we have merely been playing with it and have never seriously studied it, as we have the physical forces. Someday people will learn that material things do not bring happiness and are of little use in making men and women creative and powerful. The scientists of the world will turn their laboratories over to the study of God, prayer and the spiritual forces which have, as yet, hardly been scratched. When this day comes, the world will see more advancement in one generation than it has in the past four.”

So – how do you harness this power? Go to your mirror and look yourself straight in the eyes and say, “I am a worthwhile person, I like myself, I deserve to be happy, healthy, and prosperous (add anything else you desire to have in your life).”

I urge you to do this every day for at least thirty days or however long it takes for you to believe it. As you continue to do this you will feel and see the difference in yourself and your life. Sounds easy – and it is!

When you get to the point you can see a color around your head – you will have accessed your aura, or as artists centuries ago painted it – your halo. As your aura becomes brighter – you become more aware of who you truly are as a spiritual being.

This opens up your receptivity to receive all the good the Universe has for you NOW. Remember always that you are made in the image of God and God only makes perfect things. Once you have decided, deep within, that you are worthy – many unexpected gifts will start flowing to you. Now, watch how you receive these gifts or compliments.

Don’t let anyone put “strings” on the gifts. And please don’t keep a mental list and try to pay people back. Rather, just pass your good on to someone else if you start getting too much. Do not stop the flow – take it all with thanks.

Do you negate other’s feelings or refuse to accept the “good things” in life because you feel you don’t deserve them? If someone offers to pick up the lunch tab, what do you say? Allow others the privilege of giving. If you don’t you are stopping your own flow and theirs. The other half of giving is receiving. Also, you are malpracticing them if you think, “they can’t afford it.” Know if they want to do something for you it is their pleasure. Did you know more people can give than receive? Isn’t that interesting.

Affairs quickly change for people after they start talking about prosperity more and less about lack. So give your relatives and neighbors the benefit of your positive thoughts about monetary as well as spiritual growth.

Watch how you talk when you are in groups. Is it lack and limitation and how expensive or is it prosperity talk? Never underestimate the power of the spoken word. Many, many books have been written on this subject and I recommend that you study some of them.

“I’m Jewish. I don’t work out. If God had wanted us to bend over, He would have put diamonds on the floor.” Joan Rivers.

“The secret of a good sermon is to have a good beginning and a good ending, then having the two as close together as possible.” George Burns.

“There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable.” Mark Twain.

“In the beginning there was nothing and God said ‘Let there be light’, and there was still nothing but everybody could see it.”  Dave Thomas.

“When I told the people of Northern Ireland that I was an atheist, a woman in the audience stood up and said, ‘Yes, but is it the God of the Catholics or the God of the Protestants in whom you don’t believe?” Quentin Crisp.

“Expecting the world to treat you fairly because you are good is like expecting the bull not to charge because you are a vegetarian.” Dennis Wholey.

“My mother said to me, “If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope.” Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso.” Pablo Picasso.

I find it discouraging – and a bit depressing – when I notice the unequal treatment afforded by the media to UFO believers on the one hand, and on the other, to those who believe in an invisible supreme being who inhabits the sky. George Carlin

UCM Astrology Blog for October 2009

October 16, 2009

Elizabeth Barton AstrologySo what is up astrologically for October?

Here is a list

1.      Mercury returns to its retrograde degree of 6 Libra.

2.    Mercury is in Libra from October 9th to October 27th.

3.     Venus enters Libra on October 14th.

4.    Mars enters Leo on October 16th……until June 8th 2010, strap in boys and girls!

5.     Jupiter is stationary retrograde at 17 Aquarius from September 28th, goes Stationary direct on October 12 and final moves into the 18th degree of Aquarius on October 27th.

6.    Saturn enters Libra on the 29th of October.

7.     Venus conjoined Saturn at 28 degrees of Virgo on October 12th

8.    Uranus is retrograde all month at 24 and 23 degrees of Pisces.

9.    Neptune is retrograde all month at 24 degrees of Aquarius.

10.  Pluto is direct, all month at 1 degree.

As I am writing this blog, our dear friend Mercury, has returned to 6 Libra, the degree at which it went retrograde on September 6th.

Whew!  Talk about a balancing act in communication!  I for one am looking forward to the forward motion.

In astrology, one of the esoteric tools used are the Sabian symbols.  Each of the 360 degrees was given a meaning.

The Sabian symbols I use were channeled by psychic Elsie Wheeler, with Marc Edmund Jones in attendance, in 1925;  San Diego, California.

(note: when you have a degree with minutes, say 6 Libra 34, you read the explanation for the 7th degree.)

The Sabian Symbol for 7 degrees of Libra is: A women feeding chickens and protecting them from the Hawks.

The Keynote from Dane Rudhyar’s, “An Astrological Mandala”

is as follows: The need to face the antagonism of “powers of darkness” as one attempts to feed the mind of as yet helpless and frightened apprentices.

Keyword from Marc Edmund Jones is “Shrewdness.”

How descriptive is that of what many of us went through during the 22 days of Mercury retrograde?  Protecting our investments for our future while the predators attempt to steal what we care for.

During the last Mercury Retrograde in Libra, we got to rethink how we deal with relationships; business, societal, and familial.

Remember Air is about intellect, the way we think, so this last cycle we got to analyze the habitual patterns we use in creating and maintaining relationships.

Irritating minutiae within our social/home structure comes to the forefront and we had to deal with it.

A conversation could go like this….”We need to talk about the unwritten rules we have never spoken about…..like, squeeze out the dam sponge before you put it on the drain board!”

We also looked at how we do time management thereby opening up a clearer path for our long range plans.

And now we will have to put our conclusions to the test.

As of the middle of this month the log jam of Energy will start to break up…but into what?  More relationship stuff.  Big “R” and little”R”.

Mercury, Venus and Saturn all go into Libra.  They pack up their Virgo bags, calculators and small animals and move into Libras house of relationships.  “Lions and Tigers and ….relationships, oh my!”

But guess who is the first planet to greet them as they enter the first degrees of Libra?

Darth Pluto himself.

All three planets will square Pluto as they enter Libra!  Deep transformative communications about all of our relationships will happen.  This means both family and business.

The societal structure is changing, be proactive!!!  Think outside the box.  What can you barter?  Do you have a good network of associates and friends?

After the initial shock of dealing with the hard stuff first, relationships will improve, money will be easier to make.  Both Venus and Saturn love being in Libra.  Libra is ruled by Venus and Saturn is exalted in Libra.

Our Love ( Venus) and our societies structure (Saturn) will go into the hardball, strategic, diplomatic court of America politics as we near the upcoming Cardinal Grand Cross.

Mars goes into Leo for almost 9 months!  Usually Mars zips through a sign in approximately 44 days!

Mars is so glad to be out of kissy face Cancer, it likes Leo, it is hot, dry and fiery.  We all will have more Energy.

In traditional astrology Leo is an infertile sign so I think we will have a lot of political rhetoric, ideas will be punted back and forth but I doubt anything will happen until late May 2010.

In fact the conservative agenda will grow stronger until Uranus goes into Aries starting May 28th 2010.  The first week in June 2010 will bring the shift in Energy.

Though on the good side on Mars entering Leo, children’s issues will come into focus, new entertainment modalities will come on the scene and a bevy of action/war films will grunt across the silver screen.

On the negative side more angry talking heads on TV and radio.   Blowhards posturing for self serving purposes will wrap themselves in the flag, declaring that “their way is the best way”.  Ignore their fear mongering.

Synopsis:  The awareness of self that you gleaned during Mercury retrograde in Libra will now go on to the stage of life.  It is now time to be proactive for you, your family, your business, and your society.

If you walk the walk of Love and compassion while managing your third dimensional assets with “Shrewdness”, the lessons pondered during Mercury retrograde in Libra will help change your world and by changing you world, you will change “the world”.

We are all connected!
