On the last day of each year since 1986;   People from all over the world gather at the same time 12 noon GMT  (4:00am PST) to pray for peace and meditate for planetary healing.

Please come support our 24yr. tradition of gathering in community to invoke healing energies to infuse the planet together.

When: 4 AM  early Friday morning Dec 31, 2010  Doors open at 3:40AM

Location: Universal Church of the Master Headquarters 100 W. Rincon Ave.     #101  Campbell, CA 95008

For more information: Rev. April Lussier  408 289 9188 or  cell 408 205 0385.

World Healing Day history: At noon Greenwich time, December 31, 1986, men, women, and children around the world gather to participate in the most comprehensive prayer activity in the history– a planetary affirmation of peace, and love, forgiveness and understanding involving millions of people in a simultaneous global mind link. the purpose: to reverse the polarity of the negative force field in the race of mind, achieve a critical mass of spiritual consciousness, and usher in a new era of Peace on Earth. It was called World Healing Day, the World Instant of Cooperation, World Peace Day— a moment of Oneness to dissolve the sense of separation and return human kind to Godkind. Whatever the term or label, it was the New Beginning in restoring this world to sanity.  The majority of individuals and organizations participating were operating under the umbrella of the Planetary Commission, a world wide non-denominational, non-political movement functioning as an extension of The Quartus Foundation. It was a grass roots cooperative effort to unite people in a common bond of love and bringing our planet back into balance.  The first formal announcement of the Commission was made on January 1, 1984, designating December 31, 1986 as World healing Day. Noon Greenwich time was selected as the time for the healing meditation as it would encompass all time zones during that 24-hour period.

Word quickly spread, and when that moment in time arrived on December 31, 1986, the mind-link totaled more than 500-million people representing all religious faiths on seven continents, in more than seventy countries, and in every state in the U.S. Over 500 spiritual and peace-related organizations around the world participated.

We saw the results in the years that followed. In a report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, Walter Stuetzle, the Institute’s director and a former West German Undersecretary of Defense, said that there was “remarkable progress toward a potentially more peaceful world… There was a clean break in the pattern of a constant increase in the number of major conflicts with which the world had grown accustomed.” Now the Commission is expanding and gathering strength each year as greater awareness of the Event spreads around the world.

Sunday Celebration at the Center for Creative Living, Dec. 19, 2010.

December 24, 2010

What a festive service we had last Sunday, it was a musical Holiday Celebration with everybody singing, laughing, and crying…what a great time it was.

First came announcements and a lovely guided meditation by Rev. Doti Boon weaving all of the religions of the world together with their spiritual connections to all, with vocal and guitar accompaniment by Rev. Janet Childs and Carolyn Keyes on flute.

Rev. Doti talked about the early beginnings of this special holiday – when it was called Yule or Winter Solstice (it still in in many parts of the world)  She spoke of early people’s joy in knowing that the days would be getting longer and the winter starting to subside, speaking of Winter Solstice, we sang O’ YULE TREE. Kat and Rev. Anne leading the choir and congregation in song.

Then Rev. Doti said a little about Hanukkah and the choir sang the DREIDEL SONGS, while Rev. Anne lead us all in SHALOM (Sung in Hebrew).

How excited everyone was about a new Messiah as foretold in the Old Testament of the Bible, we all sang JOY TO THE WORLD.

Next came the Angels and shepherds seeing the star shining so brightly in the sky, so we sang THE FIRST NOEL.

How excited everyone was that the Christ child was born in Bethlehem, so we sang OH LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM.

Then Rev. Doti told a story about being pregnant during Christmas (her son born Dec. 29) and the “miracle” of snow in Lancaster.  We all sang SILENT NIGHT (we were going to sing AWAY IN THE MANGER, but the tune, somehow, eluded us)

Talking about decorating for the holidays making cookies – wrapping presents, etc. brought us to a rousing DECK THE HALLS. Next the choir sang DING DONG MERRILY ON HIGH.

Rev. Doti then told the story of the American Indian family with no place to sleep on Christmas Eve.  And also the story of the YMCA (“Y’s” men) and their charitable donations to a small struggling family on Christmas Eve.

The congregation sang OH COME ALL YE FAITHFUL.

The excitement of Santa Claus – a time to believe in the magic of the Spiritual St. Nicholas.  A time to bring out the child in everyone – a time to sing HERE COMES SANTA CLAUS and UP ON THE ROOF TOP.

The joy of the season – and why Rev. Doti always wears a hat – She has magic under that hat of hers – just like:  FROSTY THE SNOW MAN.

Rev. Donna Zehner (Assoc. Pastor) passed the basket and

Rev. Anne Corbin (co-choir director) did a prayer for the season.

Congregation gathered in a circle and sang JINGLE BELLS.

All photographs lovingly contributed by Reverend Corky Whitacre.

Next Week – Kwanzaa!  With Ronnie Grigsby, Doti Boon, and surprise guests!

Happy Holidays to all and to all a good night…Rev. Corky

Chris and Her Partner Julie

This issue is a tribute to Chris Kahl, a UCM ministerial student, member of the Center for Creative Living congregation and dear friend who went into spirit on Tuesday, Dec. 21st – surrounded by her partner, sister and many wonderful UCM ministers.

AFFIRMATION

I am sharing, honoring and loving all humankind

this Holiday season. And, You can too!

Last week I spoke of slowing down and appreciating the holidays. Many of us, during the busy holiday season beginning with Thanksgiving and ending with New Year’s Day, presume that we should all be happy. For most of us, our moods swing from one emotion to another depending on what each day brings and what the circumstances are surrounding our lives. This is particularly true for those folks who have lost friends or family during this past year.

We might be happy one moment and sad or stressed the next. For some, this is not a time of joy and cheer, but of sadness, depression, loneliness, anxiety and self-evaluation. It is normal that we find ourselves feeling different emotions especially during this time of year. But, when we let our negative thoughts or feelings get the better of us, we can hurt our health and fall into a negative funk. Warding off stress, sadness and depression is a smart and sensible way to stay healthy, mentally and physically, now and all year long.

All of this is so easy to say but so difficult to deal with. It’s like the minute the first Christmas lights appear there is a growing knot in the pit of your stomach. Take time to honor yourself, and then help others.

For me, it is a time to become active in our spiritual center, finding ways to support others emotionally, physically or through charitable acts. How can you do this – to help relieve some of the anxiety? Help others by donating time and energy to bring joy. Here at CCL we are gathering clothes, sheets, food, etc. for a family that is in desperate need. A large group of supportive and loving individuals decorated the sanctuary while Rev. Doti was ill. Folks are cooking and baking to help with the Christmas meal and many are gathering to support those experiencing great grief at the loss of our wonderful Chris Kahl.

If you have friends or loved ones who exhibit signs of depression, you may be able to understand their feelings by listening to them, and involving them in activities that will discourage inward negative thoughts. Giving them a simple job – accompanied with some genuine praise – will help them to become more interested in life and hopefully less depressed.  But most importantly – be there for them and be a good listener. Allow them to acknowledge their feelings.

No one needs to force themselves to feel happy just because it’s the holidays. Reach out to others – gently encouraging them to not be alone during this time, to attend a group – such as our own upcoming Christmas celebration at CCL – or other religious groups or community organizations. Do not be pushy! Be loving!

And if you feel you or others are completely overwhelmed by stress, sadness or depression, then professional counseling is definitely in order. Speak with your health care professional or mental health specialist.

Just think – a brand New Year is just around the corner!

And now – some humor for the season!

A mother plays the guitar while her two daught...

Twas the night before Christmas – when all through the house
I searched for the tools – to hand to my spouse

Instructions were studied – and we were inspired,
in hopes we could manage – “Some Assembly Required.”

The children were quiet – (not asleep) in their beds,
while Dad and I faced the evening with dread:
a kitchen, two bikes, and Barbie’s townhouse to boot!
And now, thanks to Grandpa, a train with a toot!

We opened the boxes; my heart skipped a beat –
let no parts be missing or parts incomplete!

“Too late for returns or last minute replacement;
if we can’t get it right, it goes straight to the basement!

When what to my worrying eyes should appear
but 50 sheets of directions, concise, but not clear,
With each part numbered and every slot named,
so if we failed, only we could be blamed.

More rapid than eagles the parts then fell out,
all over the carpet they were scattered about.
“Now bolt it! Now twist it! Attach it right there!
Slide on the seats, and staple the stair!
Hammer the shelves, and nail to the stand.”
“Honey,” said hubby, “you just glued my hand.”

And then in a twinkling, I knew for a fact
that all the toy dealers had indeed made a pact
to keep parents busy all Christmas Eve night
with “Assembly Required” till morning’s first light

We spoke not a word, but kept bent at our work,
till our eyes, they went bleary; our fingers all hurt.
The coffee went cold and the night, it wore thin
before we attached the last rod and last pin.

Then laying the tools away in the chest,
we fell into bed for a well-deserved rest.
But I said to my husband just before I passed out,
“This will be the best Christmas, without any doubt.
Tomorrow we’ll cheer, let the holiday ring,
and not run to the store for one single thing!

We did it! We did it! The toys are all set
for the perfect, most magical Christmas, I bet!”

Then off to dreamland and sweet repose
I’m grateful I went, though I suppose
there’s something to say for those self-deluded-
I’d forgotten that BATTERIES are never included!

AFFIRMATION

I am a loving child of God, spreading happiness

and joy throughout the land at this Holiday time.

It’s the time of year when folks complain they aren’t feeling any holiday cheer. I think it’s because we anesthetize ourselves with being busy, all the time, to make ourselves feel fulfilled – in other words: working, cleaning, studying, driving through traffic, being on the cell phone, emailing and paging, anything but being spiritually connected. We’ve started to look at the holidays as an interruption to “doing things” because it gets in the way of our routine. On top of it all, it has become less simple and more stressful than it used to be. Years ago the major portion of the holiday was spent stringing popcorn, making cookies, building toys and enjoying our family and friends. Now it has become a retail frenzy; a mall activity of buying bigger and better things for more people and less about “Joy to the World” and “Peace on Earth.”

Take time to slow down and remember we are celebrating the birth of the Christ child, the turning of the wheel, the mid-time of winter, and the delight in being alive. The warmth of family and friends are more important than trying to connect with the latest high-tech gadgets and best Gucci bag. Don’t make yourself a stress victim of the holidays, feeling overwhelmed and exhausted.

Stress is the leading cause of just about every health problem. All of the stress we have during the holidays can cause major illnesses at the time we want to be healthy, excited and loving towards our family and friends.

Think about that. Do you want to do Christmas with misery or do you want to do it with mirth? Laughter is contagious. It’s the antidote to frustration and anxiety. Get out and look at the beautiful lights, sing carols, watch fun movies, wear outrageous red and green clothes, gather together and giggle with friends over fruitcake and eggnog (or in my case, Diet Pepsi), Jim’s Snickerdoodles and Regina’s fudge!

When you are feeling excited and fun-loving you exude positive emotions and have less illness. All research on exercise and good eating amazingly shows the most beneficial attributes to staying well are: being in a state of positive energy, laughing, loving, a nurturing spiritual community and supportive family and friends. So join us on this Sunday to get it all!

We received all of those things at the monthly meditation at UCM headquarters. The beautifully decorated library was over-flowing with evergreen branches and twinkling candles for a Christmas celebration. We meditated to the calming voice of UCM president Rev. Sandy Clark and then some of the evening was spent singing old time holiday favorites. However, we were all a little amazed at some of the “extra verses.” Ronnie Grigsby was wonderful at keeping us on beat and thank goodness I was sitting next to him. My woeful rendition of “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” was a small squeaky and pitiful sound next to his magnificent voice.  All the room was filled with the energies of beautiful angels; alive and in spirit. I know the calm and peacefulness of our two hours in such a loving space, the warmth and love from our spiritual community and the laughter of friends has set the tone for my next twelve days of Christmas. Rev. Lynn Rogers did psychic readings for all in attendance. Of course the decorated cookies and hot cider were very welcome on a cold winter’s night.

Please take time for yourself, listen to the joyful lyrics of holiday songs, share good news and positive thoughts, gather folks together in harmony and remember – friends, family, children and even grand- children need your love and the experience of having YOU, an exciting and unique person, in their lives for a very long time. Give that to them – it’s the best gift you have!  Especially with Snickerdoodles and Fudge!

The Christmas Diet

Twas the night before Christmas and all round my hips were Jim’s Snickerdoodles that had somehow sneaked past my lips. Regina’s Fudge was stored in the freezer with care in hopes that my thighs would forget they were there.

While Rachel Ray was prattling on late night T.V. and NCIS had developed a new theory – Out in the cupboards there arose such a clatter I sprang from the leather couch to see what was the matter.

Away to the kitchen I flew like a flash tore open the window and looked for my stash. The rocky-road look of the lawn newly mowed sent thoughts of an ice cream binge to my body below.

When what to my wandering eyes should appear: a marzipan Santa with eight chocolate reindeer! That huge chunk of candy so luscious and slick I knew in a second that I’d wind up sick.

The sweet-coated Santa, those sugared reindeer, I closed my eyes tightly but still I could hear; On Nutri-System, on Atkins, on South Beach, on TOPS – a Weight Watcher dropout from sugar detox.

From the top of the scales to the top of the hall now dash away pounds now dash away all. Dressed up in Lane Bryant from my head to nightdress my clothes were all bulging from too much excess.

My droll little mouth and my round fat belly they shook when I laughed like a bowl full of jelly. I spoke not a word but went straight to my work, ate all of the candy and then turned with a jerk.

And laying a finger beside my heartburn I gave a quick nod, toward the bedroom I turned. I eased into bed, to the heavens I cry, “if only temptation is removed I’ll get thin by and by.”

And I mumbled again as I turned in for the night, “in the morning I’ll starve. . . ’til I take that first bite.” Snickerdoodles anyone?
