P S from Reverend Clark:

February 10, 2011

The Doves have still not formed a nest, and now it looks like another pair of Doves is checking out the patio. We still receive visits everyday, sometimes they sit in the sun on the fence and I really do enjoy their presence and energy, will just have to wait and see if we get a nesting. Do you think this is a lesson in patience for me?

Fractal Art by Minister Steve Waites

I am living my life fully every day.

Aside from the drama

You have created the stories in your mind that continue to give power to your limitations. And just as you have created those stories, you can let them go.

You have the ability to hold yourself back, and to hide your true power from yourself. And when you choose, you can reveal that great power, allowing yourself to become aware of it, and make full, creative, beneficial use of that true power.

What you have hidden or ignored, you can even more easily discover and utilize. Instead of struggling around what should or should not have been, awaken to the immense power and joyful possibility of what is.

Fulfillment is your natural state, if only you will let it be. Step easily and peacefully aside from the drama you’ve invented about what has been or what will be, and experience the positive power that is now.

In whatever you truly appreciate, you will find great value. So choose to appreciate all that is and all that you are.

Are you ready to live at the very highest level? Step completely into now with no judgments or reservations, and let yourself be.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

The Shoes

I showered and shaved and I adjusted my tie. I got to church and sat in a pew just in time. Bowing my head in prayer.

As I closed my eyes. I saw the shoe of the man next to me touching my own. I sighed. With plenty of room on either side I thought, ‘Why must our soles touch?’ It bothered me, his shoe touching mine, but it didn’t seem to bother him much.

A prayer began:  ‘Our Father’ I thought, ‘This man with the shoes, has no pride. They’re dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the side!’

‘Thank you for blessings,’ the prayer went on.

The shoe man said a quiet ‘Amen.’

I tried to focus on the prayer, but my thoughts were on his shoes again. Aren’t we supposed to look our best? When walking through that church door? ‘Well, this certainly isn’t it,’ I thought, glancing towards the floor.

Then the prayer was ended. And the songs of praise began.

The shoe man was certainly loud and sounded proud as he sang. His voice lifted the rafters and his hands were raised high.

God could surely hear. The shoe man’s voice from the sky.

It was time for the offering. And what I threw in was steep.

I watched as the shoe man reached into his pockets so deep.

I saw what was pulled out and what the shoe man put in, and then I heard a soft ‘clink’. As when silver coin hits tin.

The sermon really bored me to tears, and that’s no lie.

It was the same for the shoe man, or tears fell from his eyes.

At the end of the service, as is the custom here; we must greet new visitors, and show them all good cheer.

But I felt moved somehow and wanted to meet the shoe man.

So after the closing prayer, I reached over and shook his hand.

He was old and his skin was dark, and his hair was truly a mess. But I thanked him for coming and for being our guest.

He said, ”My names’ Charlie, I’m glad to meet you, my friend. ”

There were tears in his eyes, but he had a large, wide grin. ‘Let me explain,’ he said; wiping tears from his eyes.

”I’ve been coming here for months, and you’re the first to say ‘Hi.’ I know that my appearance is not like all the rest. But I really do try to always look my best.”

“I always clean and polish my shoes, before my very long walk. But by the time I get here, they’re dirty and dusty, like chalk.”

My heart filled with pain and I swallowed to hide my tears.

As he continued to apologize for daring to sit so near.

He said, ”When I get here I know I must look a sight. But I thought if I could touch you – then maybe our souls might unite. ”

I was silent for a moment; knowing whatever was said would pale in comparison. So, I spoke from my heart, not my head.

”Oh, you’ve touched me,” I said, and taught me, in part;

”That the best of any man is what is found in his heart.”

The rest, I thought, this shoe man will never know. Like just how thankful I really am that his dirty old shoe touched my soul.

SILLY SUPER BOWL JOKE

During the Super Bowl, there was another football game of note between the big animals and the little animals.

The big animals were crushing little animals and at half-time, the coach made a passionate speech to rally the little animals.

At the start of the second half the big animals had the ball.

The first play, the elephant got stopped for no gain. The second play, the rhino was stopped for no gain. On third down, the hippo was thrown for a 5 yard loss.

The defense huddled around the coach and he asked excitedly, “Who stopped the elephant?”

“I did,” said the centipede.

“Who stopped the rhino?”

“Uh, that was me too,” said the centipede.
“And how about the hippo? Who hit him for a 5 yard loss?”

“Well, that was me as well,” said the centipede.

“So where were you during the first half?” Demanded the coach.
“Well,” said the centipede, “I was having my ankles taped.”

PS from Reverend Clark:

February 3, 2011

For the last couple of weeks I have joyously noted that the Doves had returned to the patio and I expected a nest to be imminent. Well what do I know…………..it appears my past experience with Dove observance is not relevant this year, as we still do not have a nest! They sit on the fence, fly about, and glare at us as if we are on their patio, but so far no nest. Apparently this is going to be an interesting spring. I know did I just write spring, when it is freezing in parts of the country, but the Doves being around tricks me into believing spring is here, so maybe I am a little early what’s wrong with that? I like spring.
