Sunday Celebrations

June 23:  “Dialing It Down…Tools to Manage Empathy” Dr. Ayleen Augustine. Spiritual seekers in general, and healers in particular hold many common traits. One of the most significant (and often most difficult to find balance with) is their empathic nature. Join Dr. Ayleen as she explores the paradigm of empathy and offers practical tools to manage and make the most of this amazing gift. Learn how to create your own “dimmer switch” and discover how it can be used not only to help balance your energy, but also to deepen and intensify your spiritual work.

June 30:  Rev. Mary Garry.  Universal Church of the Master retiring president Reverend Sandy Clark will install the incoming president Reverend Mary Garry.  Following that installation, Reverend Garry will install the new officers of the Board.  Mary will then share with us some of her goals and strategies for UCM in the year to come. She will also discuss “Why would anyone want to become a minister”. Years of working at her husband, Reverend Tom Garry’s side, watching him sponsor and develop dozens of ministers for UCM gave her a unique perspective.  She will also share her path to the ministry, under her sponsor husbands guidance.
July 7: “Self-Reliance: Your Inner Truth”  Joyce Brown and Patty Baker.  Self reliance is understanding your own signals and learning to trust them. There are those who would call this intuition, discernment, and paying attention to that small still voice inside.  We would also call this, listening to your soul.
Self-reliance is based on creating a positive way of living for yourself, and can be of benefit to those around you, provided they can allow it to be so.
But the key begins with you.   You cannot look to others to be your self-reliance.   Others can give support, compassion, friendship, incredible teachings. But the final decision rests with you.

“Dad, are bugs good to eat?” asked the boy.
“Let’s not talk about such things at the dinner table, son,” his father replied.
After dinner the father inquired, “Now, son, what did you want to ask me?”
“Oh, nothing,” the boy said.  “There was a bug in your soup, but now it’s gone.”

Persons of Spirit

by Rev. Doti Boon

I started out this series with “Love Without Limits” we went to “Memories” and how our memories can hold us hostage with negative emotions and then I talked about “Remorse and Regrets” all of these subjects continuing on the theme of how to move forward, become more spiritual, let go of limiting beliefs and appreciate that you are a child of God. This week I will be discussing how we can grow more deeply into your own personal spirit by honoring: self-transcendence, freedom, creativity, love, and joy.

1.  Self-Transcendence, Self-Criticism, & Altruism:

Our spirits empower us and allow us to step outside of ourselves. This acceptance of Spirit’s guidance helps us to change ourselves for the better. And, when we are not stuck in our egos, we are able to reach out to others in compassion and concern.

2.  Freedom:

Freedom is our capacity to rise above ourselves and make life-changing decisions. Freedom defines our human spirit. Even though outside forces shape our lives, we have the freedom to define ourselves as those who pursue purposes other than the goals recommended and reinforced by our cultures.

The highest use of our personal freedom is to choose and invent our own purposes for living.

3.  Creativity:

Our spiritual essence constantly dreams up something new. We may not understand how such creative moments emerge. But, when we have flashes of insight and surprising new ideas, we know that something amazing has happened to us. And it is important that we capture and package such moments.

We can’t force our spirits to be creative, but we can be ready for creative moments when they occur. Being creative in art, music, writing, intuitiveness, scientific research, etc. includes being able to recognize creative flashes -and how to apply them.

4.  Love:

Love is the moment in which two spirits meet. This happens when we become open and acceptant of each other. We can’t force these moments to happen. But it is exciting to create lasting relationships when such moments occur.

No matter how fully we appreciate moments of meeting others as persons of spirit, such encounters are fleeting and need to be nurtured. It is important they not be confused with romantic love. Romantic love is an emotional response, well based in emotional programming; quite often leading to sex, partnership, or marriage. Unfortunately – these are not always a merging of spirituality.

However, discovering other persons of spirit transcends all the illusions of romance. Instead, we become open to each other as the real spiritual beings we are, not trying to fulfill the dreamy feelings of physical ‘love’ we have learned from the mass media. When there is a connection between our romantic partnerships and our spiritual connections – it is the greatest feeling possible.

It is wonderful to meet diverse people and be able to create communities of “persons of spirit” as we do through CCL – appreciating each person for who they truly are. And, it is important to honor all persons of spirit that come our way.

5.  Glimpses of Joy and Fulfillment:

As we develop our spirits in other ways we glimpse JOY and fulfillment. The better we attune with them we realize that peace – true spiritual peace – is the final and ultimate spiritual attunement with God and yourself.

SAT. June 22 – 7:00 to 9:00 – Druid Celebration for Summer Solstic: Alban Herui.   $20.
The name for the festival of the Summer Solstice in Druidry is Alban Hefin, which means ‘The Light of the Shore’. Druidry has a great respect and reverence for places that are ‘in between’ worlds. The seashore is one such place, where the three realms of Earth, Sea and Sky meet. There is great power in places such as these. It is the time of greatest light and it also brings some sadness because from now until Alban Arthan, the Sun’s strength is declining and we have entered the waning year. Of all the festivals Druidry is mostly associated with Alban Hefin. The wonderful white-robed figures filmed at the dawn rituals at Stonehenge are testament to this. However, to many Druids it is the turning seasons and the cycle of life, death and rebirth – reflected in the Wheel of the Year in its completeness – which are significant.
